DSS Frees Three Men Wrongly Held Over Banditry Allegations

The Department of State Services has released three men earlier arrested on suspicion of involvement in banditry and kidnapping after a fresh review showed they were wrongly detained. The men were picked up in June 2025 as part of wider security operations targeting banditry networks in the country.​ A special review panel set up by the DSS examined their case and concluded that investigations did not establish any link between the suspects and the alleged crimes. Following this finding, the Director General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, ordered their immediate release.​ The three men, identified as Umar Ibrahim, Alhaji Bello Rabiu and Jaja Sarki Bamo, were also granted financial compensation approved by the DSS leadership.
