Adelabu denies disrespecting Olubadan, calls claim malicious

Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has denied claims that he disrespected the Olubadan of Ibadanland, describing the allegation as false, malicious and aimed at damaging his reputation. He said at no point during his recent address in Ibadan did he insult, abuse or show any form of disrespect to the revered traditional institution. Adelabu explained that his remarks at the event were misrepresented and taken out of context by political opponents and mischief makers. Lawyer faults Oyo govt for crowning Ibadan obas in absentia

A constitutional lawyer has criticised the Oyo State government over the recent coronation of three Ibadan high chiefs as crown wearing obas in absentia. Governor Seyi Makinde went ahead with the ceremony at Mapo Hall even though the chiefs concerned did not attend. In a detailed legal opinion, the lawyer, Adebisi Adeyemo, argued that the governor exceeded his constitutional and statutory powers by proceeding with a coronation without the physical presence and express consent of the beneficiaries. He maintained that a coronation conducted in absentia lacks the essential elements of traditional and legal validity. Calm at Mapo Hall amid doubt over Ibadan chiefs’ turnout

A calm atmosphere has been reported at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan ahead of the coronation of newly elevated Ibadan high chiefs as crown wearing obas. The event, fixed by the Oyo State government, is scheduled to start in the morning with dignitaries, traditional rulers and government officials expected to attend.
