Police urge NLC to shelve Tuesday’s planned protest in Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) FCT Council to shelve its planned protest scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in Abuja. The NLC had fixed the protest to demand payment of outstanding allowances owed workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA). However, the police said fresh intelligence indicated that proscribed and non state actors were allegedly planning to infiltrate and hijack the demonstration. In a statement, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josehine Adeh, said the command fully recognises citizens’ constitutional rights to peaceful assembly and protest and remains committed to providing security for all lawful activities. She warned, however, that reports at the command’s disposal showed plans by the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria and other elements to use the protest for purposes “inimical to public peace and security.” […]
