The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) FCT Council to shelve its planned protest scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in Abuja.
The NLC had fixed the protest to demand payment of outstanding allowances owed workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA). However, the police said fresh intelligence indicated that proscribed and non state actors were allegedly planning to infiltrate and hijack the demonstration.
In a statement, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josehine Adeh, said the command fully recognises citizens’ constitutional rights to peaceful assembly and protest and remains committed to providing security for all lawful activities. She warned, however, that reports at the command’s disposal showed plans by the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria and other elements to use the protest for purposes “inimical to public peace and security.”
“In view of the above, and in the overriding interest of public safety, the FCT Police Command respectfully appeals to the organisers of the planned protest to consider rescheduling the activity to a later date and time,” Adeh said. She explained that the advice was aimed at preventing any breakdown of law and order and at protecting the rights of other residents to safety, free movement and the conduct of daily activities.
The command assured Abuja residents of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, and called for continued cooperation with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and security in the territory.

Court rejects FCCPC’s fresh bid to halt airtime lending
A Federal High Court has rejected a fresh attempt by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to stop airtime lending services run through major telecom networks. The ruling preserves an earlier interim injunction that protects airtime and data credit providers while a substantive suit on new lending rules is being heard. The case centres on the FCCPC’s 2025 Digital, Electronic, Online or Non Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations, which the commission wants to fully enforce across digital lenders, including Airtime Credit Service providers. Industry group Wireless Application Service Providers Association of Nigeria argues that the rules place heavy and conflicting burdens on telecom based lending services already regulated by the Nigerian Communications Commission. In its latest application, the FCCPC asked the court to lift or vary the injunction so it could proceed with implementation of the new regime. Justice Lewis […]

2027 polls: Supreme Court to decide PDP, ADC fate today
The Supreme Court will today deliver key judgments that will decide the fate of the Peoples Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections. The apex court is set to rule on four appeals linked to leadership crises tearing through the two opposition parties. In the case of the PDP, the appeals centre on the validity of the party’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025. A faction led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is asking the court to uphold the convention and its decisions, while rival groups insist due process was not followed. Previous rulings from lower courts faulted the PDP for obtaining conflicting orders from courts of equal rank over its internal dispute. One Court of Appeal decision described the party’s actions as an abuse of […]

Nollywood actor and reality TV star Saga Adeoluwa says onscreen kissing is weird and unpleasant and that many viewers are wrong to think actors enjoy it. He says most performers only do such scenes because they are required to tell the story properly, not because they find them exciting. He adds that the presence of cameras, crew and other actors watching also makes the experience far from romantic. Despite appearing in several romantic movies, Saga says he cannot remember a single onscreen kiss he truly enjoyed. For him, intimate scenes are some of the most challenging parts of acting in love stories. He notes that before shooting any kissing scene, he tries to have a clear discussion with […]

PSG edge Bayern in nine goal Champions League semi final classic
Paris Saint Germain took a narrow lead in their Champions League semi final after beating Bayern Munich 5 4 in a wild first leg at the Parc des Princes. The nine goal thriller was the highest scoring semi final in the history of the competition. Bayern struck first when Harry Kane converted a penalty in the 17th minute. PSG hit back through a brilliant Khvicha Kvaratskhelia strike and a Joao Neves header to lead 2 1, before Michael Olise levelled again for the German side. In first half stoppage time, Ousmane Dembele restored PSG’s advantage from the penalty spot after a handball decision against Alphonso Davies that Bayern strongly protested. That made it 3 2 at the break in a breathless opening 45 minutes. PSG then appeared to take full control early in the second half. Kvaratskhelia and Dembele each […]

I can score against any team, says Osimhen
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen says he believes he can score against any team in the world and that finding the net is a job he does very well. He spoke after his decisive performance for Galatasaray in the heated Istanbul derby against Fenerbahce. Osimhen recently returned from a fractured arm but still managed to score the opening goal in Galatasaray’s 3 0 win over their rivals. He finished calmly from a Mario Lemina pass, underlining his reputation as one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards. The 2023 CAF Player of the Year said his confidence comes from hard work and belief in his own ability. He stressed that as a striker he is expected to deliver in big games and that he embraces that responsibility. Osimhen added that while he is proud of his goals, the most important thing is […]

Army arrests 10 terror suspects, rescues kidnap victims in North Central
The Nigerian Army says its troops have arrested 10 suspected terrorists and rescued kidnapped victims in recent operations across North Central states. The operations were carried out under various internal security deployments aimed at tackling banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the region. According to a statement by the Army, the suspects were picked up in separate raids on criminal hideouts following credible intelligence. Troops also engaged armed gangs in firefights that forced the criminals to flee and abandon some of their captives. In one of the operations, soldiers rescued at least three kidnap victims who had been held in a forest location. The victims were taken into military care for medical checks before being reunited with their families. The Army said the renewed push is part of a broader offensive to dismantle terrorist and kidnapping networks in North […]
