2027: Kwankwaso Will Be Partner As VP, Not ‘Spare Tyre’ – Peter Obi

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, says his running mate, former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will serve as a full partner in governance and not a ceremonial “spare tyre” if they win. Obi made the declaration while accepting his nomination as NDC presidential candidate and formally announcing Kwankwaso as his vice-presidential pick. He pledged to run an inclusive administration in which the vice president would be actively involved in decision-making, policy formulation, and oversight of key sectors. “The government we intend to form will no longer be a government where anybody will say that the vice president is a spare tyre,” Obi said. “The vice president will be a partner because we want to build a nation where there are two equal people who work for the greatness of the […]

2027: Odds favour Obi, Kwankwaso as NDC zones presidency to South

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria and the vice‑presidential slot to the North, a move widely seen as boosting the chances of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso emerging as the party’s leading ticket. The zoning motion, moved by Afam Victor Ogene, member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, was unanimously endorsed by delegates. Party leaders said the arrangement was designed to promote fairness, balance and internal stability while addressing long running agitations over power rotation between regions. Former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso publicly backed the decision, telling delegates that zoning the […]

Dickson, Obi, Kwankwaso arrive NDC convention

National leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has arrived at the party’s inaugural national convention in Abuja alongside former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Their presence at the event signals a major step in the consolidation of a new opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections. Obi, the 2023 Labour Party standard bearer, and Kwankwaso, who contested under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), recently exited the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and are now key figures in the emerging NDC coalition. The duo had earlier held a closed door strategy meeting with Dickson in Abuja, where they discussed ideology, governance blueprint and shared priorities such as education, youth empowerment, security and national unity. Video clips from the convention venue show the crowd erupting as Obi, Kwankwaso and Dickson make their entrance, with […]
