Kenya open to 2027 AFCON delay over election tensions
Kenya’s local organising committee says it would welcome a postponement of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations because of likely election related tensions in the region. Committee chair Nicholas Musonye told AFP that shifting the tournament to 2028 would be good for Kenya as the country heads toward general elections in August 2027. Musonye noted that past polls in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda have been marked by volatility and violence, raising concerns about guaranteeing security for a major continental competition. He argued that hosting AFCON during such a period could expose fans and teams to unnecessary risks.
