Court clears Abba Kyari in asset non declaration case

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed the non declaration of assets case filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency against suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari and his two brothers. Delivering judgment, Justice James Omotosho held that the NDLEA failed to provide sufficient and credible evidence to prove that Kyari owned the properties and funds listed in the charge sheet. The judge ruled that the prosecution did not tender documents clearly linking Kyari to several properties in Abuja and Maiduguri, or to the bank accounts said to contain over N207 million and 17,598 euros. He noted that under the law, ownership of landed property must be proved through title documents, traditional history or clear acts of possession, but the NDLEA did not meet this requirement in court. Army intercepts 296 wraps of suspected cannabis in Ogun

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, have intercepted 296 large wraps of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa in Ogun State.​ The suspects were arrested during a stop and search operation along a major route in the state, after soldiers became suspicious of a commercial vehicle and ordered a thorough inspection.​ According to the army, the illicit substances were carefully concealed in multiple compartments of the vehicle in a bid to evade security checks.​ The driver and one other occupant were taken into custody after allegedly failing to provide satisfactory explanations or valid documentation for the consignment.​ Preliminary findings suggest the drugs were being transported from a border community for distribution to other parts of the southwest.​ The army said the seized wraps and suspects will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement […]

NDLEA arrests wanted drug kingpin after 13 years on the run

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a wanted drug kingpin, Reginald Peter Chidiebere, who had been in hiding for 13 years over cocaine and heroin trafficking. The NDLEA said Chidiebere first entered its net in 2013 over a cocaine shipment and was arraigned before Justice Ayokunle Faji of the Federal High Court in Lagos, but he jumped bail and disappeared. His name resurfaced in February 2024 as one of the alleged masterminds behind the importation of 49.70 kilograms of heroin from South Africa, intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. China based businessman, two Angolans held for 236 cocaine wraps

A China based Nigerian businessman and two Angolan nationals have been arrested after excreting a combined 236 wraps of cocaine at the Abuja and Kano international airports. The suspects were intercepted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency during outbound screening for international flights. NDLEA nabs China bound trader with 95 cocaine wraps at Kano airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a 62 year old Lagos based businessman, Nwabueze Nicholas Izueke, at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport for ingesting 95 wraps of cocaine.​ He was intercepted on January 31, 2026 during outward clearance for an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Kano to China via Addis Ababa. NDLEA arrests Brazil returnee with cocaine hidden in body and footwear

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a Brazil based Nigerian businessman, Uche Franklin Onyekwere, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for allegedly smuggling cocaine concealed in his private parts and in the soles of his shoes. Onyekwere was picked up on Thursday, January 29, 2026, during inward clearance of South African Airways passengers arriving from Brazil via Johannesburg, following processed intelligence. NDLEA nabs 80 year old ex convict, finds tramadol hidden in full body mannequins

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested an 80 year old ex convict, Jeremiah Isaiah Nkanta, for allegedly returning to the illicit drug trade barely three years after his last conviction. He was picked up at his home in Mmanta Abak village, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, where officers found 5.7 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis.​ Nkanta was first arrested by the NDLEA on December 14, 2022, prosecuted and sentenced to two years in prison for dealing in drugs. NDLEA arrests ex convict, three others over UK bound cocaine hidden in starch sachets

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested an ex convict, Nwobodo Chidiebere Basil, and three cargo agents after intercepting cocaine concealed in liquid starch sachets and destined for the United Kingdom.
