Northern Christian group urges US to reconsider Nigeria sanctions
The Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) has appealed to the United States government and its lawmakers, including Senator Ted Cruz, to reconsider the move to label Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged Christian persecution. In a statement on Wednesday, the group said that while it acknowledges the reality of Christian killings in parts of northern Nigeria, such a designation could harm ongoing national efforts to promote peace and unity. The NCYP warned that the proposed action, though well-intentioned, might undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s initiatives aimed at fostering inclusivity and reconciliation across religious and ethnic lines.
