ADC national convention: Security beefed up as 3,000 delegates elect new NWC
Security has been tightened in and around the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja, venue of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) national convention. About 3,000 delegates are expected to take part in the convention, where they will elect members of a new National Working Committee (NWC) to run the party’s affairs for the next four years. Personnel of the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) are stationed at the main entrance, subjecting delegates and journalists to thorough security checks before granting access. Patrol vehicles have also been positioned at strategic locations around the venue. The convention is taking place against the backdrop of a leadership crisis in the ADC, with two factions laying claim to control of the party.
