Islamic states slam Israel’s new death penalty law
Several Islamic states have strongly condemned Israel’s new death penalty law, which targets Palestinians convicted of deadly attacks on Israelis in the occupied territories. They describe the measure as discriminatory, dangerous and a serious threat to regional stability and peace. Under the law, Palestinians in the West Bank who are convicted by Israeli military courts of carrying out lethal attacks classified as acts of terrorism will face death by hanging as the default sentence. Rights groups say the same punishment does not automatically apply to Jewish Israelis convicted of killing Palestinians, making the law clearly unequal and racist in its application.
