Ministry of Education Delivers 3,000 Mono Desks to Labone SHS

The Ministry of Education has delivered more than 3,000 mono desks to Labone Senior High School in Accra after reports showed that some newly admitted Form One students were sitting on the floor or using dining hall benches due to a lack of furniture. According to the Ministry, Labone SHS officially requested 3,282 mono desks through the Ghana Education Service. GETFund approved the full request, and the delivery was completed on Monday, November 24. The supply forms part of a nationwide programme to distribute 200,000 mono desks to 100 senior high schools transitioning from the double-track to the single-track system. The initiative is designed to reduce furniture deficits, improve classroom conditions, and support effective teaching and learning across second-cycle institutions. Ministry Assures Transparent 2025 BECE Placement

The Ministry of Education has assured parents and candidates that this year’s school placement exercise for successful 2025 BECE candidates will be fair, transparent, and strictly merit-based. According to the Ministry, placements will be determined by candidates’ aggregate scores in six subjects – English, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies, and the two best electives. In case of a tie, raw scores will be used to rank candidates. Officials strongly cautioned the public against fraudsters, stressing that no payment is required for school placement. Parents and students were urged to report extortion attempts to the security agencies. To ensure accuracy, a choice confirmation window has been opened from August 27 to September 1, 2025. Education Minister inaugurates new 12-member GES Council

The GES Council is to provide strategic leadership and oversight for Ghana’s pre-tertiary education sector. The council is chaired by former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Professor Mawutor Avoke. Other members of the council are Dr Rosemond Wilson (West African Examinations Council - WAEC), Professor Azeko Tahiru Salifu (National Schools Inspectorate Authority - NASIA), Mr Adam Adu Marshall (National Teaching Council - NTC), Professor Yayra Dzakadzie (National Council for Curriculum and Assessment - NaCCA), Rt. Rev. Paa Solomon Grant-Essilfie (Teacher Association – rotational representative) and Mrs Mamle D. Andrews (Chief Director, Ministry of Education).
