Breaking: Gunmen Kidnap Ex-Minister Adelabu’s Sister, Children in Ibadan

Armed gunmen kidnapped the younger sister of immediate past Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons early Wednesday morning in the Elewura area of Challenge, Ibadan, in another wave of abductions rocking Oyo State. The victims, identified as Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, 43, and her twin sons Peter and Paul, were abducted by armed men at about 7:30 a.m. while Mrs. John-Paul was taking her children to school in Ibadan. The incident occurred in the Elewura, Challenge area of Ibadan South West Local Government Area. Adelabu promises more reliable power for Nigerians in 2026

Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu says Nigerians should expect more reliable, accessible and sustainable electricity supply in 2026 after what he described as a year of “focused groundwork” in 2025.​In his New Year message, he said the federal government’s priority is to stabilise supply to homes, businesses and critical sectors and to make grid disturbances “a thing of the past”.​ Adelabu highlighted work done under the Presidential Power Initiative (Siemens deal) to strengthen the national grid and curb the frequent collapses seen in previous years.​He said government will deepen efforts to enhance grid stability and expand transmission infrastructure in 2026 to reduce outages and improve power delivery nationwide.​ The minister also pledged closer collaboration with electricity distribution companies to raise service quality and accelerate metering so that more customers are accurately billed and protected from estimated billing.​He said the Light Up […]

Power minister promises quick restoration of electricity supply

Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has assured Nigerians that electricity supply will be rapidly restored after a sharp nationwide drop in power in recent days. He said the disruption is temporary and linked to a sudden shortfall in generation caused by damage to critical gas infrastructure.​ According to the minister, the decline followed an explosion on the Escravos–Lagos Gas Pipeline and acts of vandalism on other gas facilities feeding several major thermal power plants. These incidents cut gas supply, forcing many gas fired stations to reduce output and leading to reduced power on the national grid.​ Adelabu spoke after a meeting with key sector stakeholders, including the National Independent System Operator, Transmission Company of Nigeria, generation companies and distribution companies.
