Togo Prepares to Launch Malaria Vaccine Program
Togo is gearing up to introduce the malaria vaccine into its national health system, making it the 21st African country to adopt the measure. The plan was confirmed during talks between President Faure Gnassingbé and Sania Nishtar, Executive Director of the Global Alliance for Vaccines (Gavi), at the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Yokohama, Japan. Gavi will support the rollout by covering costs related to vaccine procurement, transportation, storage, and training of health workers. The financial details of this assistance have not yet been disclosed. The initiative adds to Togo’s existing malaria prevention efforts, which already include the large-scale distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets.
