Lagos rolls out traffic diversion plan for Fanti Carnival at TBS

The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan and temporary road closures around Tafawa Balewa Square ahead of the Lagos Fanti Carnival scheduled for Monday April 6 2026. Authorities say the measures are to ensure a safe and hitch free procession on Lagos Island. According to the Ministry of Transportation, vehicular movement will be restricted on major routes leading directly into TBS from 7 00 a m on the day of the event. Affected corridors include King George V Road by the Mobil Filling Station, Flag House inbound TBS, Force Road inbound TBS, Onikan Roundabout inbound TBS and WaterBoy Roundabout by Old Defence House. Emab Plaza fire: Emergency crews still on site after 2 days

Emergency workers are still battling debris and assessing damages two days after a massive fire gutted Emab Plaza, a four-storey commercial complex located behind the Mandilas Building on Lagos Island. The blaze, which broke out late Tuesday night, came just hours after the Afriland Towers fire on Broad Street, sparking renewed concerns about recurring fire disasters in Lagos Island’s crowded business district. According to eyewitnesses, the fire started on the fourth floor of Emab Plaza around 9:23 p.m. before spreading rapidly to three adjoining buildings. Afriland Towers fire: Six more deaths confirmed, toll rises to 10

At least six more people have been confirmed dead following the Afriland Towers fire on Broad Street, Lagos Island, bringing the death toll to 10. The latest victims were staff of United Capital Plc, which occupies the 3rd and 4th floors of the six-storey commercial building. This comes just hours after the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) confirmed that four of its employees also died in the blaze. The fire reportedly started in the inverter room in the building’s basement around 1:30 pm on Tuesday, sending thick smoke billowing into the air and forcing panicked occupants to attempt desperate escapes through windows.
