Fire guts Computer Village building, destroys goods worth millions

A night time fire has destroyed a one storey commercial building on Somoye Street in Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos, burning property worth several millions of naira. The affected building housed shops used for the storage and sale of computers and accessories.​ Eyewitnesses said the fire started around midnight and spread quickly because of the volume of combustible materials inside. Emergency responders arrived after distress calls and battled the flames through the night.​ No life was lost, but an officer of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service sustained minor injuries during the operation. Lagos fire incidents: NIA pledges swift insurance claims settlement

The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has assured victims of the Sept. 16 fire outbreaks at Afriland Towers and Emab Plaza in Lagos that valid insurance claims will be promptly settled. In a statement issued on Thursday, NIA Chairman Kunle Ahmed extended condolences to the individuals, families, and businesses affected by the incidents, which resulted in loss of lives and property. “We deeply mourn the loss of lives and property and stand in solidarity with those who are grieving and rebuilding in the aftermath of this unfortunate event,” Ahmed said. Afriland Towers fire: Six more deaths confirmed, toll rises to 10

At least six more people have been confirmed dead following the Afriland Towers fire on Broad Street, Lagos Island, bringing the death toll to 10. The latest victims were staff of United Capital Plc, which occupies the 3rd and 4th floors of the six-storey commercial building. This comes just hours after the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) confirmed that four of its employees also died in the blaze.
