GES explains why some SHS students repeat a year, Dr Tandoh says it’s a learning support process
Former Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, has explained why some SHS students are made to repeat a year, saying the practice is part of a structured educational process, not a punishment. Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he said repetition has always been used when students have not fully grasped the material. According to him, the process today is different from the mass promotion and mass repetition systems that existed years ago. “At first, repetition was done when students had not done well. It is a process,” he said, adding that schools follow specific steps before a student is asked to repeat. Dr Tandoh emphasized that students learn at different speeds.
