NEF spokesperson Professor Abubakar Jiddere said the government has a constitutional and international obligation to protect lives and property. The directive included demands for the immediate deployment of adequately trained, armed and equipped security forces with clear rules of engagement to protect civilian populations and secure international border regions. AY Makun Calls for National Unity in Fight Against Insecurity

Popular Nigerian comedian, actor, and filmmaker Ayo Makun, widely known as AY Makun, has called for national unity in the fight against Nigeria's escalating insecurity, describing the country as turning into a "crime scene" amid rising bandit attacks and kidnappings. The comedian's comments come amid recent attacks involving school kidnappings, killings of security personnel, and increased bandit activities across Nigeria. Insecurity: US Panel Accuses Police, Army of Collusion in Militias’ Attacks

The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has accused members of Nigeria’s police and army of colluding with Fulani militias in attacks on communities across the country. In a report released yesterday, the US panel alleged that some security officials were allegedly linked to incidents involving kidnappings and violent attacks targeting civilians, particularly in the central and northern regions. The report stated that multiple and overlapping factors, including religion in many cases, likely spur Fulani militants to attack communities or individuals. The USCIRF report follows earlier allegations that 30,000 armed Fulani militants are driving Nigeria’s insecurity. The panel’s findings have intensified scrutiny of the Nigerian security sector, already under pressure due to rising kidnappings, banditry, and communal clashes across the country. According to the report, security forces have made gains against insurgents, but the military is overstretched, handling […]
