Lai Mohammed Urges Nigerians To Back Tinubu On Insecurity

Former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has called on Nigerians to give stronger support to President Bola Tinubu’s administration in its efforts to tackle insecurity. He said the scale and complexity of today’s security threats make it impossible for government and security agencies to succeed without active citizen cooperation. Speaking in an interview, Mohammed noted that the Tinubu government has introduced several measures to curb terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes. However, he argued that these steps will only produce lasting results if communities share information, resist propaganda and stop shielding criminals. He criticised what he described as a growing tendency to politicise security issues and to downplay government successes while amplifying failures. According to him, such attitudes embolden violent groups and weaken the morale of security personnel risking their lives on the frontlines. Mohammed urged […]

No more ransom, no talks with terrorists, says Defence Minister

Defence Minister General Christopher Musa has declared that there should be no more negotiations or ransom payments to terrorists in Nigeria, insisting that such actions only strengthen criminal groups. Speaking during his ministerial screening and in comments highlighted by the Ministry of Defence, Musa warned that paying ransom gives terrorists money and time to regroup, re-arm and plan fresh attacks, noting that some communities that negotiated were later attacked again. He urged all levels of government to adopt a united position against negotiating with terrorists or bandits, stressing that ransom payments must stop if Nigeria is serious about ending kidnappings and insurgency. Musa also pointed out that Nigeria’s banking and digital payment systems can be used more effectively to trace ransom money and disrupt terrorist financing networks when supported by a unified national database and stronger security coordination. The minister […]
