AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu Dies After Battle With Cancer
Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Kanayo Uzuegbu has died after a prolonged battle with cancer, according to reports emerging from the Nigerian Police Force. Uzuegbu, who was previously the Commissioner of Police for Enugu State Command, was promoted to AIG in March 2025 and assumed duty at Zone 9 Police Command Headquarters in Umuahia, Abia State, taking over from AIG Suleiman Amuda Yusuf who was promoted to Deputy Inspector General of Police. During his tenure as Zone 9 AIG, Uzuegbu directed Commissioners of Police in Imo, Abia, and Ebonyi states to put watertight security measures in place ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations in 2025, demonstrating his commitment to maintaining security in the Southeast region.
