El Rufai to remain in ICPC custody as court shifts bail ruling to June

Former Kaduna State governor Nasir Ahmad El Rufai will remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) after a Kaduna State High Court adjourned ruling on his bail application to the first week of June. Justice Darius Khobo gave the ruling on Tuesday during the resumed hearing of El Rufai’s trial on an amended nine count charge bordering on alleged fraud, abuse of office and corruption. The ICPC had earlier reviewed the case and left the former governor as the sole defendant in the matter. Proceedings focused on arguments for and against granting bail, with prosecutors opposing the application on the grounds that El Rufai could interfere with ongoing investigations if released.
