Families still searching for missing loved ones after Plateau attack

Days after the deadly attack on Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, many families are still searching for missing loved ones. The night assault, carried out by gunmen who opened fire on residents and passersby, left at least 26 people dead and many others injured. Relatives of those unaccounted for have been moving between the Jos University Teaching Hospital, other clinics and various mortuaries hoping to find their family members alive or identify their bodies. Some say they have not heard from their loved ones since the attack and that their phones have remained switched off. Plateau Govt Imposes 48 Hour Curfew In Jos North After Deadly Attack

The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48 hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack on the Angwan Rukuba axis. The curfew runs from midnight of Sunday, March 29 to Wednesday, April 1, 2026. According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the decision follows a tragic security incident at Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba on Sunday. The attack claimed several lives and left many others with varying degrees of injuries. Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang condemned the assault, describing it as a barbaric and unprovoked attack on innocent citizens. Troops kill kidnapper, arrest informants in Plateau as Niger police nab female ammunition courier

Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, under Operation Peace Shield, have neutralised a suspected kidnapper and arrested three alleged informants during a rapid response to a kidnapping attempt in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. Acting on credible intelligence on 15 December 2025, soldiers moved to a reported kidnap location in Dong community, where they engaged the suspects and forced them to abandon their initial plan.​ According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of JTF Operation Enduring Peace, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the fleeing criminals diverted to a neighbouring community and abducted four people as they tried to escape.
