Gunman killed in Istanbul consulate attack

A gunman was killed and two others injured following a shootout near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul, in what Turkish authorities have described as a terrorist incident. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan condemned the attack as a “heinous act of terror,” vowing that such actions would not undermine the country’s security environment. According to Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci, two police officers sustained minor injuries during the exchange of fire. One officer was hit in the leg and the other in the ear, but both are reported to be in stable condition. Authorities said the attackers had travelled from the city of Izmit using a rental vehicle. The gunman who was killed was identified as Yunus E.S., described by officials as having links to an extremist group exploiting religion—widely interpreted as a reference to Islamic State, although no organisation has claimed responsibility. US begins pullout from main base in northeast Syria

US forces have begun withdrawing from their largest military base in northeast Syria in what Syrian security and military sources describe as the first phase of a broader drawdown from the region. Dozens of US military trucks and armoured vehicles were seen leaving the Qasrak base in Hasakah province and moving towards Iraq’s Kurdistan region, with the pullout expected to take several weeks. The base at Qasrak has for years served as a key hub for the US led coalition’s operations against Islamic State, supporting deployments across northeastern Syria in partnership with the Kurdish led Syrian Democratic Forces. Even after a full evacuation from Qasrak, the coalition is expected to retain a presence at the Rmelan (Kharab al Jir) base near the Iraqi border, though overall troop numbers in Syria are set to fall sharply. Officials quoted in local and […]

Syrian state forces enter Kurdish‑run Hasakah under ceasefire deal

Syrian government security forces have moved into the Kurdish‑run city of Hasakah in northeast Syria under a new U.S. backed ceasefire deal that paves the way for Kurdish regions to be merged back under Damascus’ control. The agreement, announced on Friday, averted further fighting between President Ahmed al Sharaa’s government and the Kurdish led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which lost large parts of eastern and northern territory to government troops in January. Reuters journalists saw a convoy of more than 30 interior ministry vehicles head towards Hasakah from positions outside the city on Monday afternoon, with local sources confirming they later entered. Officials said the forces are expected to be based in Syrian state buildings inside Hasakah’s “security zone.” The deal outlines a phased integration of SDF fighters into government ranks, a move Washington has hailed as a historic step […]

Gumi asks FG to halt military cooperation with US over ISIS bombing

Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Mahmoud Gumi has called on the Federal Government to immediately suspend all military cooperation with the United States following US airstrikes on ISIS targets in Nigeria. He warned that continued American involvement could worsen insecurity and undermine Nigeria’s national sovereignty. Gumi made his position known in a statement shared on his Facebook page. He argued that while Islam allows the fight against terrorism, such operations must be carried out by what he described as clean hands, insisting that the US lacks the moral authority to lead counterterrorism efforts because of its global military record. According to him, Nigeria made a mistake by allowing foreign powers to play a direct role in its security operations. He said foreign military interventions often come with hidden political interests and can lead to civilian casualties. Gumi also cautioned that […]

Suicide Bombing Kills 15 at BNP Rally in Quetta, Pakistan

At least 15 people were killed and more than 30 others injured after a suicide bomber targeted a political rally in Quetta, the capital of Pakistan’s Balochistan province, on Tuesday night. Hundreds of members of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) had gathered at a stadium for a rally commemorating former provincial chief minister Ataullah Mengal, who died in 2021, when the bomb detonated in the parking area. Authorities said the attacker could not reach the main venue due to strict security measures. The Islamic State militant group claimed responsibility for the attack. Officials said the death toll could have been far higher if the bomber had entered the rally grounds.
