Nigerian Leaders Reject US Senator’s Insurgency Sponsorship Claim

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri, alongside a US former mayor and a top Islamic leader, has strongly rejected US Senator Ted Cruz's allegation that the Nigerian government sponsors Boko Haram insurgency. At a press conference in Abuja, Omokri described the claim as "false, unfair, and lacking any credible evidence." He challenged Senator Cruz to provide proof and name any officials allegedly involved, stating that such accusations damage Nigeria's image and counterterrorism efforts. Former Republican Mayor of Blanco, Texas, Mike Arnold, emphasized that Christians and Muslims in Nigeria are united against a common enemy—terrorism. He expressed confidence that US President Donald Trump would be "very amenable" to providing assistance if formally requested by the Nigerian government. The Secretary-General of the Jama’at Nasril Islam (JNI) also condemned the allegations, warning that labeling the violence as a "Christian genocide" is baseless and dangerously […]

UN: Nigeria Lost $10bn to Northeast Conflict

A United Nations study has revealed that Nigeria lost an estimated $10 billion due to the decade-long conflict in the Northeast. The disclosure was made by the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) during the launch of a reintegration program in Maiduguri. The agency stated that the insurgency not only shrank the national economy but also crippled the income and earning potential of families and young people in the region. To address this, UNICEF has launched a program to support over 1,000 children affected by the conflict. The initiative provides vocational training in skills like tailoring, ICT, and carpentry, alongside psychosocial support. The program aims to restore "hope, dignity, and opportunity" to adolescents, helping them build sustainable livelihoods and contribute to the recovery and resilience of their communities.
