Trump govt launches immigration raids in Chicago

The Trump administration has launched a major immigration enforcement operation in Chicago, escalating tensions with Illinois leaders. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the crackdown on Monday under the codename “Operation Midway Blitz,” saying it targets the “worst of the worst criminals.” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin accused Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and other Democratic officials of allowing violent offenders, including gang members and drug traffickers, back onto Chicago’s streets. “For years, Governor Pritzker and his fellow sanctuary politicians released Tren de Aragua gang members, rapists, kidnappers, and drug traffickers on Chicago’s streets — putting American lives at risk,” McLaughlin said in a statement. Hyundai Georgia ICE Raid Nearly 500 Workers Arrested in Historic Immigration Sweep

US immigration authorities have arrested nearly 500 foreign workers in what officials describe as one of the largest workplace raids in Homeland Security’s history. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said 475 people, mostly South Korean citizens, were found working illegally at a Hyundai battery plant in Georgia on Thursday. Officials said the majority had entered the US on short-term visitor visas that do not authorize employment. “People on short-term or recreational visas are not authorized to work in the US,” ICE said. “This raid was necessary to protect American jobs.” The detained workers are being held at an ICE facility in Folkston, Georgia, while officials determine their next steps. US Immigration Arrests Nigerian Convicted of Rape

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Theophilis Anwana, a Nigerian national convicted of second-degree rape in Baltimore, Maryland. ICE’s Baltimore field office confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Saturday, August 30, 2025. According to the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, Anwana was previously sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment in Bel Air. He has also been under a final order of removal since September 2021, meaning he was due to be deported after completing his prison term.
