Why impressive CVs don’t always secure the job – Mary Njoku
Actress and filmmaker Mary Njoku has questioned why many impressive CVs do not translate into successful hires, despite companies constantly complaining about the struggle to find good employees. In an Instagram post, she said she is “genuinely confused” because every day she sees people without jobs, solid CVs on paper and employers still unable to get the right talent. Njoku argued that CVs have quietly turned into “marketing documents” rather than honest reflections of what people can actually do. According to her, job titles are often inflated, responsibilities are written in an aspirational way and surface level polish has replaced real depth and competence.
