Rivers Chief Judge rejects impeachment request over court orders
The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Chibuzor Simeon Amadi, has declined a request by the Rivers State House of Assembly to set up a seven member panel to probe Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof Ngozi Odu, over alleged gross misconduct. In a leaked response letter, he said his hands were tied by subsisting interim injunctions issued by a High Court on 16 January 2026 in two separate suits filed by the governor and his deputy. The court orders expressly barred the Chief Judge from receiving, processing, considering or acting on any impeachment related request or communication from the Assembly pending further hearing of the cases.
