WHO warns of rising attacks on health facilities in Iran

The World Health Organization has raised fresh alarm over multiple attacks on health facilities and workers in Iran since the escalation of the US and Israeli military campaign against the country. The agency says the pattern of strikes is severely undermining access to life saving care and threatening the wider health system. WHO Director General Tedros Ghebreyesus said the organisation has verified more than 20 attacks on health care in Iran since 1 March alone. One-Third of Europe’s Doctors, Nurses Have Depression – WHO

A new World Health Organization (WHO) report reveals a mental health crisis among healthcare workers in Europe, with one in three doctors and nurses suffering from depression or anxiety. The report highlighted that nurses and female doctors are more likely to experience depression, while male doctors show a higher tendency toward alcohol addiction. Countries like Latvia and Poland reported the highest depression levels, while Denmark and Iceland had the lowest. The WHO is calling for urgent measures, including zero tolerance for violence and reduced working hours, to address the crisis and prevent a looming shortage of nearly one million […]

Despite being granted financial clearance by government—a process meant to authorize their salaries—no payments have been made to date. During the protest, the convener of the coalition, Stephen Kwadwo Takyiah, expressed the deep frustration and emotional toll the situation has caused. “We are emotionally drained from working with no assurances of payment anytime soon,” he lamented, describing the toll on both morale and daily survival. The health professionals argue that the salary delays have forced them into what they call an […]
