Health services improve in Togo’s Savanes

Malgré un contexte sécuritaire fragile marqué par les menaces terroristes et les déplacements de populations, les autorités togolaises poursuivent leurs efforts pour améliorer l’accès aux soins dans la région des Savanes. Les indicateurs récents témoignent de progrès notables. Le taux d’utilisation des services de santé est ainsi passé de 74 % en 2024 à 76 % en 2025, soutenu par le renforcement des infrastructures sanitaires et le déploiement de cliniques mobiles dans les zones difficiles d’accès. Les avancées sont encore plus marquées en matière de santé maternelle : la proportion de femmes enceintes ayant bénéficié des quatre consultations prénatales ainsi que d’un accouchement assisté est passée de 58 % à 78 %. FG launches Safe Blood Project to expand access nationwide

The Federal Government has launched a new initiative to transform blood transfusion services across Nigeria, pledging that no citizen should lose their life due to the unavailability of safe blood. The programme, called “The Safe Blood Project,” is the country’s first national training scheme focused on transfusion safety. US Donates Two Boats to Improve Health Access in Ghana’s Western Region.

The United States, through USAID, has donated two specially designed boats to enhance healthcare access for about 7,500 residents in 28 riverine communities in Ghana’s Western Region. This initiative addresses transportation challenges that have previously hindered healthcare delivery in remote areas like Jaway and Nzulezu.Kimberly Rosen, the USAID/Ghana Mission Director, stated that the boats will facilitate medical outreach, providing essential services such as immunizations and maternal care. Locally constructed from fiberglass, the "Western Princess GHS #6" and "Western Express GHS #5" boats are equipped to serve as mobile clinics. The Jomoro District Director of Health Services highlighted that these boats would significantly improve access to critical health services in communities without health facilities.This donation is part of USAID's ongoing commitment to support Ghana's health sector, having contributed over $90 million in 2023 to various health initiatives.
