United Nigeria grounds three aircraft after repeated bird strikes
United Nigeria Airlines has grounded three of its aircraft in 48 hours after a series of bird strike incidents. The airline’s Public Relations Officer, Chibuike Uloka, said in a statement on Friday that the latest incident involved an Embraer 190 aircraft at Benin City Airport on Thursday. He explained that the affected aircraft, operating Flight UN0561 from Benin to Abuja, was withdrawn from service after its nose landing gear was damaged by a bird strike. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a bird strike happens when a bird collides with a moving aircraft, usually during takeoff or landing at low altitude.
