EOCO and UK Join Forces to Fight Romance Fraud in Ghana

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) of Ghana and the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) have launched a campaign to tackle the rising cases of romance fraud in the country. The initiative aims to educate the public, strengthen intelligence-sharing, and encourage victims to report fraudsters.Romance fraud involves scammers deceiving individuals online, building fake emotional connections, and manipulating victims to extort money. To counter this, EOCO and the NCA will roll out educational resources, social media outreach, and roadside awareness campaigns.As part of the initiative, two fraud-reporting hotlines—0547-419-419 and 0800-910-910—have been introduced to make it easier for the public to report suspicious activities.The UK’s NCA stressed the urgent need for global collaboration, noting that fraud accounts for over 40% of crimes in the UK. Gov’t Cuts Independence Day Costs by 90%, Moves Event to Jubilee House

Sunyani Tragedy: Woman’s Body Found in Septic Tank After Three Weeks

Two Soldiers Sentenced for Kidnapping and Robbery of Small-Scale Miner.

Two soldiers have been sentenced to 10 years in prison for their involvement in the kidnapping and robbery of a small-scale miner, Mr. Andrews Asante, in Ametubuom. Lance Corporals Alfred Mensah and Matthew Amoako, alongside their accomplices, ambushed the miner’s home and forced him to hand over money and valuables totaling GH₵96,500. The robbers, who wore military uniforms, beat the miner and his family members before fleeing with the stolen goods. They were arrested after a police chase, but their fellow soldiers, Frimpong and Francis, remain on the run.

Hunter Sentenced to 24 Months for Stealing Phones and Cash.

An 18-year-old hunter, Frederick Donkor, also known as K2, from Aboso Nsuaem in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality, has been sentenced to 24 months of hard labor by the Tarkwa District Court 2 for unlawful entry and theft. Donkor pleaded guilty to stealing GH¢2,500 in cash, a pair of Jordan sneakers, and three mobile phones—a Samsung Galaxy A21, a Samsung Galaxy 8 Edge, and an iPhone X—totaling GH¢9,700 in value. The theft occurred on December 31, 2024, when Donkor broke into the residence of a 21-year-old cocoa purchasing clerk while he slept. Following his arrest, the police recovered the stolen phones, though one was damaged; however, the cash and sneakers were not retrieved. Presiding Judge Isaac Osei Asare advised Donkor to abandon unproductive behaviors and focus on self-improvement after serving his sentence.
