Manso Tontokrom Youth Block Military Access Over Mining Land Dispute
Hundreds of youths at Manso Tontokrom in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region staged a protest to block military personnel from entering their mining site. The demonstration, which lasted through the night, saw the community’s main entry road blocked with burning tires, a move that symbolized their anger and frustration. About fifty military officers who arrived at the scene were unable to gain access to the town. The youth insisted that they have mined on their ancestral land for decades and will not allow it to be taken over by outsiders.
