Dorcas Affo-Toffey Builds New Classroom Block for Jomoro School

More than 400 pupils and teachers at Nana Avoh Nwiah Basic School in the Jomoro Municipality had for years been forced to teach and learn in a deteriorating wooden structure widely described by residents as a death trap. The unsafe building discouraged attendance and affected enrolment, as some parents feared for their children’s safety. Inside, there were no proper desks. Pupils sat on backless benches placed on dusty, uncemented floors. When heavy rains fell, teachers often shut the school because of the leaking, tattered roof. On days it remained open, more than 400 pupils were squeezed into a single classroom considered slightly safer than the rest of the structure. The open design of the building created constant danger. Teachers recalled an incident where a snake fell from the roof into a classroom during lessons. The situation was worsened by poor […]

Mahama Recalls Nightmares After Father’s Detention Following 1966 Coup

ohn Dramani Mahama has opened up about a painful chapter from his teenage years, revealing that he suffered recurring nightmares after his father was detained in the aftermath of Ghana’s 1966 coup. He shared the personal reflection in Arusha, Tanzania, during the opening of the 2026 Judicial Year and the 20th anniversary of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights. The event brought together judges, legal scholars, policymakers, and human rights advocates from across the continent to assess progress and persistent challenges within Africa’s justice systems. A Personal Memory Shaped by Political Turmoil Framing his address around judicial independence and the protection of human rights, Mahama recounted how national political upheaval left a lasting mark on him as a young boy. Kofi Kapito criticises voter inducement in NDC Ayawaso East primaries

The Chief Executive Officer of the Consumer Protection Agency, Kofi Kapito, has criticised the practice of distributing food and other incentives to voters during political primaries, describing it as unethical and harmful to Ghana’s democratic process. Speaking on Joy News AM about voter inducement in party primaries, Kapito stressed that the issue cuts across political lines. “It’s not just an NDC thing. It’s a Ghana thing,” he said. He acknowledged that certain technical interpretations may allow such practices but warned that public perception tells a different story. “When the masses don’t buy the technicalities, it becomes a problem,” he noted. Ethics and accountability Kapito argued that the deeper issue is a broader ethical deficit in the country. He questioned what happens to the principles taught in schools once people leave formal education. “At the university, they teach ethics. The question […]

Jinapor Criticises 24-Hour Economy Bill, Says Policy Has Created No Jobs

Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has sharply criticised the government’s proposed 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, arguing that the flagship policy has failed to deliver jobs nearly a year into the administration. Speaking during parliamentary consideration of the bill on Thursday, February 5, Mr. Jinapor said the much-touted three-shift, eight-hour work system remains largely theoretical and has not translated into meaningful employment for Ghana’s unemployed youth. “Eleven months into the NDC administration, their flagship programme of a 24-hour economy, with the three-shift system for unemployed Ghanaian youth, the only place working some form of shifts today is the Office of the Speaker of Parliament, and even that is not a full 24-hour operation,” he stated. Questions Over New Authority Mr. Jinapor questioned the rationale behind establishing a new authority to supervise the policy, warning that it risks duplicating […]

NDC Kpandai Leadership Disowns Protest After Supreme Court Quashes Rerun Elections

The Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kpandai, Nyong Robert Saparku, has formally distanced the party’s local leadership from a recent demonstration staged by some party supporters following the Supreme Court’s decision to quash the rerun elections in the constituency. Speaking in an interview with Adom News and through an official statement, Mr. Saparku clarified that the protest was neither organised nor sanctioned by the recognized constituency executives of the NDC. According to him, the party operates under a clearly defined leadership structure at the constituency level, and any political action taken outside that framework cannot be attributed to the party. “The leadership of the National Democratic Congress in Kpandai wishes to state, for the record, that the party has a recognized leadership structure at the constituency level, and this must be respected at all times,” he […]

Kwabena Agyepong Criticises Clergy Prophecies in NPP Primaries

New Patriotic Party presidential aspirant, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has sharply criticised religious leaders who publicly predict outcomes of the party’s presidential primaries, describing their actions as inappropriate and misplaced. Speaking to JoyNews, Agyepong questioned why pastors and prophets are increasingly inserting themselves into partisan political contests, particularly through prophetic declarations about election winners. “They are supposed to be preachers, preaching the gospel. I don’t know what business they have dabbling in politics. I find it very strange,” he said. According to Agyepong, churches are drifting away from their core mission as political discussions creep into religious spaces. He expressed concern that sermons and church gatherings are now being used to debate presidential outcomes rather than spiritual matters. “You go to church and people are now discussing who will be president. Is that the work of a minister?” he asked. […]

Inusah Fuseini Alleges Pressure on Gloria Akuffo Over NDC Prosecutions

Former Tamale Central Member of Parliament, Inusah Fuseini, has alleged that the wife of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta once confronted former Attorney General Gloria Akuffo over what she perceived as a slow pace in prosecuting former officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Fuseini claimed he personally witnessed the encounter, which he said took place at a gym located within the Air Force facility in Accra. According to him, the confrontation stemmed from dissatisfaction with how aggressively the Attorney General’s office was pursuing cases against former NDC appointees. “I exercise in the same gym with them at Air Force, and I can tell you on authority that the wife of Ken Ofori-Atta picked a fight with Gloria Akuffo because she felt that Gloria Akuffo was not prosecuting NDC former appointees enough,” Fuseini stated. His remarks […]

Martin Kpebu Backs Forson or Ablakwa as NDC Flagbearer

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has publicly thrown his support behind a younger generation of leaders to take charge of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after President John Dramani Mahama’s final term. Speaking on JoyPrime TV’s Prime Morning Show on Wednesday, Kpebu said the party must begin a deliberate transition toward youthful leadership, naming Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as his preferred choices. “If we are doing wishes, then undoubtedly, Ato Forson should go or Okudzeto. For the young persons, it is our turn generally to take over,” he stated. Kpebu argued that the party’s senior figures have had their opportunity and that the next phase of the NDC’s evolution requires fresh energy, new ideas, and leaders who can connect more directly with a changing electorate. “If old people have tried, it […]
