Ex-NATO chief says UK ‘not safe’
Former NATO secretary general George Robertson has warned that Britain’s national security is “in peril”, declaring that the UK is “not safe” under current defence arrangements. In extracts of a speech reported by the Financial Times and BBC, Robertson accused Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government of “corrosive complacency” on defence. He said the Iran war should serve as a “rude wake‑up call” to the risks the UK faces. “We are underprepared. We are underinsured. We are under attack. We are not safe,” the former Labour defence secretary was quoted as saying.
