Israel says it won’t withdraw troops from Lebanon, Syria, Gaza

Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz has declared that Israeli troops will remain indefinitely in "security zones" in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and Syria, marking a major policy shift in the country's military approach to border security. Katz emphasized that unlike previous instances, the Israeli military is not retreating from areas that have been cleared and taken, stating that troops will remain in the security zones acting as a buffer between adversaries and Israeli communities "regardless of whether the situation in Gaza is temporary or permanent" – similar to the approach in Lebanon and Syria. The defense minister's announcement comes after Israel unilaterally expanded its frontiers in the war unleashed by Hamas' October 7, 2023 attack, and the military strengthens its control over various occupied regions. Israel says it must maintain control of what it refers to as security zones to […]

Israeli strikes in Gaza kill three, test fragile ceasefire – Medics

Israeli strikes have killed at least three Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, in incidents that underscore the fragility of a U.S.‑brokered ceasefire in place since October 2025. Medics said one person died in an airstrike on the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, while two others were killed in a separate strike in the southern city of Khan Younis. According to Gaza’s Hamas‑run interior ministry, the Khan Younis strike killed Wessam Abdel‑Hadi, head of the Hamas‑run criminal police force, along with one of his aides. Israel has in recent months intensified attacks on Hamas police and internal security targets, which it says the group uses to reassert control in areas under its rule. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the latest incidents. Violence has persisted despite the ceasefire, with Israel carrying out near‑daily strikes and ground operations while […]

Eleven Killed in Gaza Amid Ceasefire Strains

Eleven Palestinians were killed in Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip on Sunday morning, according to Palestinian civil defence and health officials. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it targeted what it described as terror infrastructure in response to alleged ceasefire violations by Hamas. The military added that militants were killed after emerging from a tunnel into an area of Gaza under Israeli control. The Palestine Red Crescent Society reported that a strike on a tent encampment in northern Gaza killed at least six people, while another strike in the south of the territory left five dead. Israel and Hamas have traded accusations of near-daily violations since a fragile ceasefire took effect on 10 October. The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza says at least 600 people have been killed since the truce began. Earlier this month, local officials reported […]
