Russia Expels UK Diplomat Over Spying Allegations
Russia has expelled a British diplomat after accusing him of working as an undercover intelligence officer for the United Kingdom. The Russian Foreign Ministry said the official’s accreditation had been revoked and ordered him to leave the country within two weeks. In a statement, the ministry said Britain’s charge d’affaires in Moscow was summoned and given a formal protest. Russian authorities claimed they had received information from security agencies that the embassy staff member belonged to the UK’s intelligence services and was involved in activities that threatened Russia’s security.
