Ghana summons South Africa’s envoy over ‘xenophobic incidents’

Ghana has summoned South Africa’s acting High Commissioner in Accra over what it describes as a series of “xenophobic incidents” targeting Ghanaian nationals. In a statement issued on Thursday, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa raised concerns after videos emerged online showing Ghanaians being harassed in parts of South Africa. The United States Department of State has revoked the visas of six foreign nationals who made social media posts celebrating or justifying the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. In a statement released on X Tuesday evening, the Department said, “The United States has no obligation to host foreigners who wish death on Americans.” The announcement included screenshots of posts from individuals in South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Paraguay, Germany, and Argentina.
