US Says Rwanda Breaching Congo Peace Deal With Support For M23 Rebels
The United States has accused Rwanda of breaching a newly agreed peace deal aimed at ending hostilities in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo by continuing to support the M23 rebel movement. The accusation comes only days after Washington announced it had helped broker an accord between Kinshasa and Kigali to reduce tensions. US and UN officials say M23 has launched fresh attacks in parts of eastern Congo with backing from Rwandan forces. Reports indicate that Rwandan troops, weapons and logistical support have enabled the rebels to gain ground in mineral rich areas of South Kivu and neighbouring provinces.
