Muslim youth group urges review of INEC chairman’s appointment

The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations has urged President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly and the Council of State to review the appointment of Professor Joash Amupitan as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.​ In a statement signed by its National President, Sani Suleiman Maigoro, and National Secretary, Mas’ud Akintola, the group said leadership of the electoral body is a sensitive national responsibility that must enjoy broad public confidence across all segments of the country.​ NACOMYO warned that any issue capable of creating fear or distrust among stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections should be addressed early to protect the integrity of the democratic process.​ The organisation said its appeal is driven by the need to safeguard national unity, ensure credible elections and strengthen public trust in democratic institutions.
