Pakistan and Austria vow to deepen ties on 70th anniversary of relations

Pakistan and Austria have agreed to further strengthen their bilateral relationship in areas including trade, investment, energy and education during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Vienna. The trip marks 70 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries and included talks with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker. In a joint statement, both sides highlighted plans to expand economic cooperation, particularly in renewable energy, green technology, climate resilience and digital innovation. They also discussed opportunities for Austrian firms to participate in infrastructure and industrial projects in Pakistan. Maduro offers talks as US signals openness to serious dialogue

NAF aircraft in Burkina Faso was on ferry mission, not covert operation

A senior Nigerian military source has dismissed claims that a Nigerian Air Force aircraft was on a clandestine mission in Burkina Faso. The source explained that the C-130 transport plane was on a scheduled ferry mission to Portugal when it made an emergency diversion to Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, after the crew noticed a technical issue.​ According to the source, the diversion followed standard aviation safety procedures and was not linked to any combat, intelligence, or political operation in Burkina Faso or the wider Sahel region. ECOWAS Officially Accepts Exit of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso.

ECOWAS has officially acknowledged the withdrawal of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso from the regional body. This decision followed a six-month grace period and was confirmed in a press release issued by the ECOWAS Commission on January 29, 2025.The statement emphasized the importance of solidarity across the region and urged both member and non-member states to continue recognizing national passports and identity cards bearing the ECOWAS logo. Additionally, the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS) remains in effect, enabling trade between both member and non-member states.
