Dangote Refinery Reduces Petrol Price to N1,250/Litre

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the gantry price of petrol by N25 to N1,250 per litre from N1,275 per litre, representing a two per cent decrease. The 650,000-barrels-per-day refinery also adjusted the price of diesel, which was reduced to N1,700 per litre. The price cuts come as traders across Nigeria's major markets have been closely monitoring the refinery's pricing decisions, which influence fuel prices nationwide. Petrol at the Dangote Refinery gantry had previously been sold at N1,275 per litre before the latest reduction. The move is expected to ease pressure on motorists and fuel marketers, who have been grappling with fluctuating petroleum product prices in recent months. The reduction marks the latest development in Nigeria's downstream petroleum sector since the removal of the fuel subsidy and the commencement of large-scale refining operations at the Dangote Refinery, Africa's largest single-train refinery. Dangote exports 1.66bn litres fuel amid US–Iran tensions

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has exported an estimated 1.66 billion litres of refined fuel products in April 2026 as global energy markets reel from the impact of the US–Iran war. The record export volume came as buyers in Africa, Europe and other regions scrambled for alternative supplies amid fears of disruptions to traditional shipping routes in the Middle East. Industry reports show that the refinery, Africa’s largest with a nameplate capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, has ramped up shipments of diesel, petrol and jet fuel in recent months. The April figure alone represents a sharp jump compared to earlier months, with exports of aviation fuel rising to an average of about 160,000 barrels per day at the height of the crisis. Analysts say the surge in exports underscores Dangote’s growing role as a stabilising force in regional fuel supply, helping […]

Rising diesel costs cripple fishing as 80 percent of vessels stop work

Rising diesel prices have crippled Nigeria’s fishing industry, leaving more than 80 percent of trawler vessels grounded. A visit to the Ijora Fish Market in Lagos showed a sharp drop in fish supplied by Nigerian trawlers, leading to scarcity and higher prices for consumers. Retired Navy Captain Oladele Robinson, National Executive Secretary of the Fisheries Cooperatives Federation of Nigeria, said both artisanal and industrial operators are badly hit by the soaring cost of fuel. He explained that small scale fishers rely on petrol PMS to power their boats, while industrial trawlers depend entirely on diesel AGO. Many now go to sea and return without enough catch to cover fuel costs, making trips unsustainable. Robinson said this situation is driving up the prices of fish and other seafood across markets. Sources close to the Nigerian Trawlers Owners Association NITOA said diesel […]

Petrol price may rise again as crude oil hits new high

Nigerians may face another round of petrol price increases as crude oil prices continue to climb on the international market. Nigeria’s Bonny Light crude has risen to 70.30 dollars per barrel from 64 dollars last week, about a 10 per cent increase and the highest level so far this year. Brent crude now trades at 70.15 dollars per barrel, up from 66 dollars, while Murban crude has moved to 68.01 dollars from 65.20 dollars. Earlier in the week, filling stations raised petrol pump prices to an average of 850 naira per litre from 750 naira, citing the rise in crude prices. The Dangote Refinery and oil marketers argued that crude oil is the main input cost and that higher crude prices inevitably push up fuel prices. However, while crude prices went up by about 6.2 per cent, the local petrol […]

Dangote Refinery Assures Steady Fuel Supply as Output Surpasses Demand

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has assured Nigerians of a steady fuel supply during the upcoming festive season, announcing that its daily output of petrol and diesel now exceeds the nation’s consumption levels. In a statement on Saturday, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Anthony Chiejina, said the refinery currently produces over 45 million litres of petrol and 25 million litres of diesel per day. “Our production capacity surpasses national demand,” Chiejina said. “We are collaborating with regulators and distributors to ensure efficient delivery across the country. Dangote remains committed to powering Nigeria.” He explained that the refinery’s growing domestic refining capacity has helped stabilize the naira by reducing foreign exchange outflows and supporting local currency inflows. Backing the federal government’s newly introduced tariff policy on fuel imports, Chiejina described it as a vital measure to […]
