More strikes coming as FG, US detail Sokoto anti ISIS operation

Terrorists operating in northern Nigeria face more coordinated attacks after Nigeria and the United States carried out a joint strike on their locations in Sokoto State on Thursday night. Defence HQ says US strike in North West had federal approval

Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has confirmed that the recent United States airstrike on terrorist targets in North West Nigeria was carried out with the approval of the Federal Government. The military described the operation as a joint effort between Nigerian forces and the US aimed at neutralising foreign ISIS linked elements in the region.​ Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the strike followed credible intelligence and careful planning. Details emerge on 16 detained officers over alleged coup

Fresh details have emerged about the identities of 16 Nigerian military officers reportedly detained over the alleged foiled coup of October 1. According to reliable sources, 14 of the detainees are from the Nigerian Army, including one brigadier general, one colonel, four lieutenant colonels, five majors, two captains, and one lieutenant. The remaining two officers include a Lieutenant Commander from the Navy and a Squadron Leader from the Air Force, both equivalent in rank to a major. Reports suggest that most of the Army officers belong to the Infantry Corps, while one serves in the Signals Corps and another in the Ordnance Corps. DHQ Warns Ex-Soldiers to Stop Illegal SDA Protests

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has cautioned discharged soldiers protesting at the Federal Ministry of Finance over the Security Debarment Allowance (SDA), describing the demonstrations as illegal. Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, issued the warning on Friday, saying the protests were obstructing official activities at the ministry and would no longer be tolerated. “The Defence Headquarters acknowledges freedom of legitimate protest, but the veterans are strongly advised to trade with caution and vacate the premises of the Federal Ministry of Finance in order to pave way for normal government functions to be seamlessly conducted,” Kangye said.
