State Police: Joint Lawmakers–Executive Panel Concludes Work

The joint panel made up of federal lawmakers and representatives of the executive has concluded its work on a framework to establish state police in Nigeria, bringing the long-running agitation for decentralised policing a step closer to reality. IGP Disu inaugurates committee on state policing

Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has inaugurated an eight member committee to drive the implementation of state policing in Nigeria. The committee, made up of senior security experts and top police officers, is expected to develop a practical roadmap for setting up state police structures across the country in line with ongoing security reforms. Disu said the move follows the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to decentralised policing, which is aimed at improving response to crime and strengthening community level security. Tinubu says new tax laws will boost prosperity
