US sends 200 troops to Nigeria for military training

The United States has deployed about 200 troops to Nigeria to help train the Armed Forces in the fight against Islamist militants. The Wall Street Journal quoted a US military official as saying the move followed recent criticism by President Donald Trump over attacks on Christians in Nigeria.​ The report said the troops will strengthen Nigeria’s counterterrorism capacity through training and operational support. More strikes coming as FG, US detail Sokoto anti ISIS operation

Terrorists operating in northern Nigeria face more coordinated attacks after Nigeria and the United States carried out a joint strike on their locations in Sokoto State on Thursday night. Officials from both countries confirmed that the operation is part of ongoing actions against ISIS linked elements in the region.​ A US military official quoted by The New York Times said about a dozen Tomahawk missiles were deployed near the Niger Republic border, targeting Islamic State Sahel fighters accused of attacking security forces and civilians.
