Navy busts illegal refinery sites in Rivers

The Nigerian Navy says it has uncovered and dismantled several reactivated illegal refining sites in Rivers State as part of its ongoing crackdown on crude oil theft and illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta. The operation was carried out by personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder under Operation DELTA SENTINEL in the Ndoni and surrounding riverine areas of the state. According to a statement issued by the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the troops discovered a network of dugout pits, ovens and surface reservoirs used to store products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil and stolen crude. US seizes Nigerian owned supertanker over suspected crude theft

The United States Coast Guard, working with the US Navy, has intercepted and seized a Nigerian owned supertanker named Skipper over allegations of crude oil theft and other transnational crimes. The 20 year old Very Large Crude Carrier, which has long operated in West African and South American waters, was taken under US law enforcement authority after a multi agency investigation raised red flags about its movements and cargo records.​ US security officials said intelligence reports linked the Skipper to suspected crude theft, piracy and possible drug trafficking across several jurisdictions. FG youth programmes reduced crime in Niger Delta – NDYM

The Niger Delta Youth Movement (NDYM) has commended the Federal Government for implementing various youth training and empowerment programmes that have significantly reduced criminal activities across the Niger Delta region.
