Vigilante leader, two others held over death of suspect in Rivers

Police in Rivers State have arrested the leader of a local vigilante group and two others for allegedly torturing a man to death in Okogbe community, Ahoada West Local Government Area.​ The suspects, identified as vigilante chairman Joshua, member Friday Silas and motorcyclist Obed Godlove, were intercepted on Sunday by youths and a Joint Task Force in nearby Ukpeliede community while they were allegedly attempting to dispose of the victim’s body.​ The deceased, known as Ghadafi, was said to have been arrested by the trio on Saturday after he was accused of stealing palm fruits from the community. Army troops rescue 18 passengers from sea pirates off Cameroon coast

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 13 Brigade have rescued 18 passengers, including two infants, after suspected sea pirates hijacked a passenger boat on the Nigeria Cameroon route. The attack happened on January 11 near Kombo Fishing Port within Cameroonian waters while the boat was travelling from Nigeria to Cameroon.​ Army spokesperson Major Yemi Sokoya said the pirates, operating in two speed boats and a wooden boat, seized the passenger vessel and abducted all those on board. President Donald Trump has announced the immediate end of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somali immigrants living in Minnesota, claiming the cut is part of his crime prevention policies.
