Iran Executes Man Over Links to Nationwide Protests

Iran has executed a man over his alleged involvement in nationwide anti-establishment protests that erupted in January 2026. Judiciary-affiliated media identified the executed man as Erfan Kiani, whose death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court before being carried out early Saturday morning. Authorities said Kiani acted on behalf of Israel's Mossad intelligence service. Iranian officials claimed Kiani led a group in the central city of Isfahan that carried out acts including damaging public and private property, setting fires, using Molotov cocktails, blocking roads and attacking security forces during the unrest. Death toll from Iran unrest nears 2,600, rights group reports

The death toll from weeks of anti government unrest in Iran has climbed to almost 2,600 people, according to a US based human rights group. The authorities have accused the United States and Israel of fomenting the unrest and say “terrorists” have attacked security forces, mosques and public property. The protests began on December 28 over soaring inflation but have since turned into one of the biggest challenges to Iran’s clerical rulers since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Demonstrations have spread nationwide, with funeral marches, strikes and […]
