Reps in rowdy session over move to reopen Electoral Act amendment

The House of Representatives has descended into a rowdy session over a move to rescind its earlier decision on the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill 2025 and reopen it for fresh consideration. The controversial step came during an emergency sitting convened to address issues raised by the newly released 2027 election timetable from the Independent National Electoral Commission. Speaker Tajudeen Abbas presided over the sparsely attended plenary where the only item on the Order Paper was a motion to rescind the House’s approval of the amendment bill and recommit it to the Committee of the Whole.
