South Africa restores power to Nigerian High Commission after settling debt

Electricity supply has been restored to the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria after the mission settled outstanding utility debts owed to the City of Tshwane. Tshwane Executive Mayor, Nasiphi Moya, confirmed the reconnection on Monday, thanking the High Commission for honouring its financial obligations to the municipality. She said the city proceeded to reconnect power once the arrears were cleared. The mission had earlier been disconnected as part of an enforcement drive against customers owing for services. Announcing the cut‑off in a previous post on X, Moya said the High Commission owed the city for utility services and shared a photograph of the Nigerian mission building. The Nigerian High Commission has yet to issue an official statement on the episode, but local authorities say the matter is now resolved following payment of the debt.
