PTDF shortlists 746 South South applicants for foreign scholarship

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund has shortlisted 746 applicants from the South South for screening under its 2026 2027 Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme. Nationwide, the agency is interviewing between 5885 and 6193 candidates drawn from 38398 applications received for MSc and PhD programmes. The interview exercise, which runs from April 7 to 17 2026, is holding across the six geo political zones, with Port Harcourt serving as the centre for the South South region. Team Lead at the PTDF Port Harcourt Centre, Peter Egheneji, said the scheme is part of the Fund’s mandate to develop capacity for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry through scholarships and bursaries. Tinubu appoints Prof Shuaibu Aliyu PTDF chief

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund. The appointment follows the resignation of the former head of the agency, Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who left to contest the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. A statement from the Presidency said Professor Aliyu’s appointment takes immediate effect. He is expected to provide strong leadership for the agency, which is responsible for building Nigerian capacity in the oil and gas sector through scholarships, training, research and technology development. Kano Invests N800m in Training for Livestock Sector Boost

The Kano State Agro-pastoral Development Project (KSADP) has invested approximately N800 million in capacity-building programs for stakeholders in the livestock sector. According to a statement from the project, the training aims to equip beneficiaries with the skills needed to effectively implement project goals and ensure its sustainability. The initiative includes a specialized workshop on Animal Insemination for technicians and staff of the State Ministry of Agriculture. The Project Coordinator, Ibrahim Muhammad, highlighted that the training is part of a broader effort to reintroduce Artificial Insemination for sustainable livestock development in Kano. The state is a major hub for livestock in Nigeria, with the sector contributing over ₦1.73 trillion to its economy in 2023.
