Māori Queen Meets King Charles III in London
New Zealand’s Māori Queen, Te Arikinui Kuini Nga Wai hono i te po, has met King Charles III at Buckingham Palace in London during an official visit to the United Kingdom. The meeting was the first between the two leaders since Te Arikinui became queen in 2024 following the death of her father, Kiingi Tuheitia. The visit highlights the nearly 200-year relationship between New Zealand’s Māori people and the British Crown, a connection formalised through the Treaty of Waitangi, one of New Zealand’s founding agreements.
